Mode of delivery
The programme shall be offered through Face-to-Face teaching mode, Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) mode in a blended manner.
Face to face mode
The programme shall be conducted through lectures, group discussion, seminars, tutorials, case studies, student-lecturer consultations, supervised independent study, group projects, practicals, demonstrations and e-learning services.
Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) mode
The programme shall be offered by Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) mode. This shall include self-instructional print and electronic study materials and online lectures, seminars and tutorials
Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
- A holder of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum of grade C or its approved equivalent qualifications.
- A holder of KCSE minimum Division III or its approved equivalent qualifications.
- A holder of a recognized certificate in Early Years Education with at least two years teaching experience and KCSE minimum grad C- or its approved equivalent qualifications.
- Any other relevant qualifications recognized by Senate.

Exam Regulations
Examinations shall consist of coursework and end of semester examinations.
A candidate shall only be allowed to sit for the University examination in any unit if he/she attended a minimum of 2/3 of the required course.
Coursework assessment shall contribute 30% and end of semester examination shall contribute 70%.
The pass mark in all units shall be 40%.
All units shall be examined in the semester in which they are taken.
Teaching practice shall be examined through assessment of practical teaching and related activities in the school. Each candidate shall be assessed a minimum of six times. Each assessment shall be marked out of 100%. Teaching practice will be marked out of 100%.
A candidate who fails to take a scheduled regular semester examination out of a good cause acceptable to the Faculty of Education Board and approved by Senate shall be allowed to take it when the unit is next examined. It shall be marked out of 100%.
A candidate who fails any unit will resit a supplementary exam when the next semester examination is offered and not more than two times.
A candidate who shall have passed an examination after a resit shall have his/her marks reduced to 40%.
The research project shall be marked out of 100%
Research project: The candidate shall be required to write a research project in English equivalent to two units. The research project topic will be in a topic of the candidate’s interest. The topic shall be from Early Childhood Education issues. The candidate shall be assigned a supervisor under whom he/she shall develop a research proposal and who shall subsequently supervise the project to the end. The research shall be done in the fourth term during the teaching practice.
